RITZ 'Zoomerang' 2012 - Celebrating Koalas & the new Conrad Prebys Australian Outback More Social Diary Event Coverage ....HOME
(PAGE 1 of 2) June 16th, 2012 was a sweet night for critters at the San Diego Zoo. Over 850 animal supporters came to support the Zoo's new Australian Outback and the koala conservation program. The evening started with started with a flurry of flashbulbs and red carpet 'interviews.' Past the hubbub selected animals were on display with trainers for educational meet and greets with guests. The lead educator was Joan Embery, the Zoo's Animal Ambassador who along with Zoo President Rick Gulley, informed quite a number of guests about interesting animal details. Among the guests there for this 29th annual event were Lisa and David Casey, Diane Clarke and Dan Moore, Joy and Jim Furby, Chairs Martha and Mike McKinnon, Valerie (in a purple leopard gown by Versace) and Harry Cooper, Pat and Bob Whalen, Cathleen and Colin Haggerty, Emma and Leo Zuckerman, Christine and Craig Andrews, and Elisabeth Bergan with Peter Caruso. That's Peter Caruso the real estate broker to the celeb stars. Guests enjoyed lavish appetizers like sushi, crab cakes and mini lamb chops. Definitely an annual hit with patrons. Also a hit this year was the demonstration of how the Anatolian Shepherd helps deter cheetahs from attacking herds in Africa. A very symbiotic relationship in coexistence for all. The evening continued with dinner by Steve Black of the Sheraton Harbor & Marina and followed with dancing. That's dancing to the fabulous Wayne Foster Orchestra who were very generously underwritten by Dianne and Jim Bashor. Over $1.5 million was net that night as Honorary Chair Audrey Geisel pledged an astounding 2 for 1 dollar match up to $1million.
