Del Mar Opening Day 2010

Over 45,000 Opening Day track goers came to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon July 21st, 2010.

It was a day of fun from the infield to the elegance of the Turf Club and private suites.

Among the standouts seen were Valerie Cooper in a red Dior suit and matching hat from Samuel's NYC, Emma Zuckerman in strapless Carolina Herrera, Cindy Warwick in Nicole Miller, Stephanie Lyon in Nicole Miller, Jenny Craig in a befeathered frock, (her horse Twisted Candy won one of the races), Maggie Bobileff pretty in Nicole Miller, and then there were those handsome guys.

Julien Hug, Bertrand Hug and Scott Johnston were all bedecked in Mister B clothing. Julien topped his ensemble with a hat.

And there were beautiful hats everywhere interspersed with a few whimsical ones too. Among the local couture creations were Carol Bader Design of Del Mar Hat Co., and Diana Cavagnaro.

Denise Hug wore a lime green Carol Bader. It matched her lime green dress!

It was a great day too for many like Karen and Don Cohn of Ballena Vista Farm who had an especially great day. They bet on 3 Valiant Effort, a Bertrando baby in the second race and he won! By the way, Daddy Bertrando moved to Ballena Vista Farm just this week!!

That was Gail and Ralph Bryan dining recently with Christopher Ashley at Barbarella's Restaurant. Ashley still has 'Tony X 4' on his mind. He and the playhouse scored four well deserved Tony's this year for the hit Memphis!

LJP's 'A Midsummers Night's Dream premieres Sunday the 25th! Christopher Ashley says rehearsals have been going really well!

* Margo Schwab, more formally known as Margaret E. Schwab, has produced, written, interviewed and photographed for various media organizations since 1989. Schwab attended Holton Arms School, La Jolla Country Day School and La Jolla High School. Schwab has a B.A. from Scripps College, spent a business internship with S.A.I.C., Science Applications International Corporation, and earned a Masters of Business degree, M.B.A., from the University of San Diego by way of Claremont Graduate School . Schwab additionally took college courses from Harvard University, and Syracuse University. Schwab volunteers for numerous charity organizations. She also continues to support animal organizations and the prevention of people and animal abuse. Schwab is the editor of The Social Diary.
