MCASD Exhibition Opening Mexico:Expected / Unexpected a MultiNational, MultiMedia Hit
Guests enjoyed wine and previewed thought provoking art like Carlos Amorales ’s layered piece The Horny Ghost, Kendell Geers wall art with the F-word woven into the repetitive pattern, and a maze of hanging garlic bulbs by Rivane Neuenschwander called Suspended Landscape.
The bulbs were inspiring to many including restaurant owner Sami Ladeki of Sammy ’s Woodfired Pizza. Ladeki was right at home walking through the Suspended Landscape’s garlic maze. More recipe ideas perhaps.
More guests there enjoying the art were Dr. Carol Randolph and Bob Caplan, Colette Royston, Dr. Laurie Mitchell and Brent Woods, Lynn Gorguze and Scott Peters, Rosella Fimbres, Ruth Melero, Richard Farson, Sharon Ladeki, and Georgette and Ignacio Munoz from Ensenada.
Peter Townsend was there too. Townsend is the MOLAA President and CEO.
Two standout examples of thought provoking border art were Kendell Geers’ neon lights one intermittently flashing ‘BORDER / ORDER,’ the other, ‘DANGER / ANGER.’
As the evening progressed, so did the numbers of people joining in the fun including Isabel and Augustine Coppel (the owners of the collection) were there with several members of their families. They were later joined by Lynda Forsha and the MCASD David C. Copley Director Dr. Hugh M. Davies for a private dinner with a number of the MCASD International Collectors.
Mexico: Expected / Unexpected MCASD and MOLAA installations are the curatorial result of dialogue between Mireya Escalante and Ana Belén Lezana (CIAC), Lucía Sanromán (MCASD) and Cecilia Fajardo-Hill and Idurre Alonso (MOLAA).
Mexico: Expected / Unexpected at MCASD in La Jolla will be on view through May 15th, 2011.
